Abstract

We suggest the use of topological effects that are independent of the time of interaction for the creation of achromatic (velocity independent) elements for atomic interferometry. In this paper a scheme of a light-induced achromatic phase plate based on the Berry phase effect is presented. A general expression for the Berry phase acquired by a three-level atom during its adiabatical slow traversing of a σ+-σ_ field is obtained.
