Case Study Using School Climate Data to Support a Positive School Climate

This chapter presents a case study of Newkirk Middle School (NMS) using school climate data to support a Positive School Climate. NMS is a large public middle school in the northeastern region of the United States. The chapter suggests the process for collecting and analyzing school climate data. The School Climate Committee at NMS is comprised of the principal, vice principal, three teachers across grade levels, and the school psychologist. The NMS School Climate Committee compares average overall school climate ratings of students, personnel, and parents. The NMS School Climate Committee finds that since the first administration of the GSCS in the fall, student ratings of school climate have decreased. At the conclusion of the meeting, the NMS School Climate Committee has a revised School Climate Action Plan.
