Abstract
The calculations of the thermalization rate and elastic cross section for collision between two maximally spin-polarized chromium atoms in ultracold and cold regimes, relevent to magneto-optical cooling and to buffer-gas are discussed. Ab initio potential-energy curves for Cr2 and the van der Waals coefficient C6 is calculated. The interaction potentials between two colliding Cr atoms is constructed. The effect of shape resonances on the elastic cross section is explored. It was found that they affect the thermalization rate.
