Abstract
This article explores the process of integrating a feminist identity for both experienced and emerging feminists. A qualitative analysis was utilized to identify themes in two group dialogues. The analysis in dicated that the era in which experienced ferninists were initiated into feminism framed this movement as liberating and empowering, while emerging feminists described a process of initial resistance when encountering feminism. Emerging feminists discussed having to over come negative media images of feminism before becoming motivated to integrate this identity. Both groups relayed challenges in communicating feminist principles and the practices they used to meet these difficulties. Findings in this article are discussed inrelation to the need for a sensitive presentation of feminism to young women in class rooms or professional settings.
