Abstract
This chapter introduces the Growth Plan System (GPS) year, highlighting the transition from team-based collaborative learning to individual teacher leadership projects. During this second year, Fellows develop and implement a professional development plan tailored to their interests and district goals, fostering leadership skills and driving district-wide science education initiatives. The GPS year builds on the foundation laid in Year 1, where Fellows participated in Vertical and Horizontal Collaborative Coaching and Learning in Science (V-CCLS and H-CCLS). Year 2 challenges Fellows to step out of their comfort zones by leading independent projects that align with both personal interests and district needs. These projects range from school beekeeping and lab alignment initiatives to creating take-home science kits and conducting virtual science nights. The chapter emphasizes the transformative impact of the GPS year on Fellows, who gain confidence, leadership skills, and a deeper understanding of science education. This structured yet flexible approach enables teachers to pursue meaningful projects, contribute to district initiatives, and ultimately enhance student learning and engagement in science.
