Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter

Abstract

This chapter introduces the Wipro Science Education Fellowship (SEF) program, showcasing its profound influence on educators and its foundational structure. The chapter opens with personal testimonials from teachers highlighting how the SEF program has empowered them in their teaching and leadership roles. The Wipro SEF program aims to recruit dedicated K-12 teachers to enhance their instructional and leadership skills while remaining in the classroom. The program is a collaborative effort involving seven universities across the United States and local school districts, emphasizing high-need districts. The chapter outlines the program's three pillars: reflective practice, adult learning, and leadership. Teachers participate in Collaborative Coaching and Learning in Science (CCLS) cycles, fostering a supportive environment for sharing and reflecting on teaching practices. The program also includes a Growth Plan System (GPS) in the second year, allowing teachers to tailor their professional learning. The SEF program emphasizes distributed leadership, where teachers and coordinators collaborate and share responsibilities, ensuring sustainable improvements in K-12 science education. The chapter concludes with advice from former Fellows, encouraging new participants to embrace collaboration, feedback, and continuous learning.
