What is Postmodernism and How is it Relevant to Engaged Pedagogy?

This article identifies some of the advantages of using a postmodern approach in the psychology classroom. A postmodern pedagogical stance has special relevance for faculty who teach abnormal psychology insofar as postmodernism encourages reflexivity and increases students' awareness of social justice issues. I provide specific ideas for classroom activities and assignments that enhance students' critical thinking skills and their engagement in the learning process. In addition to abnormal psychology, these suggestions and activities are appropriate for use in courses such as introductory psychology, personality theory, ethics, and cross-cultural psychology.
