Abstract
To date, characterizations of social movement frame alignment have described modes of frame expansion but remained theoretically blind to frame contraction. I articulate distinct frame contraction processes and show how they can enhance descriptive accuracy and improve theoretical depth by better representing the dialectical and dynamic nature of social movements.
